Hello and Welcome! My name is Matt Scinocca. Thank you for visiting my website.
Perhaps the most significant question we can ask ourselves when seeking therapy is, “What is it like to be me?” Sometimes we can get so caught up in the day-to-day demands of life that we are unable to pay much attention to the life we are currently living and the impact that this living has on us. For some of us, it can be a struggle to even ask the question.
Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to explore, in detail, the ways in which we experience ourselves in the world and with one another. When we allow another person to be part of our personal exploration, it can open us up to ourselves. This openness can take various forms. It can manifest itself as a greater awareness and a deeper understanding of ourselves and of the life we are currently living. It can offer us a heightened sense of our personal freedom which can bring with it a renewed feeling of what is possible. It can call forth in us a desire to connect with ourselves and others in more meaningful ways.
Sharing our personal story with another can be helpful. When we share that story with someone who is listening empathically and with special attention to our unique experiences, it is therapeutic and potentially life-changing. Psychotherapy provides us with a space to examine the ways in which we experience and make sense of the life we are living. Often we are unaware of how and why we make meaning in the ways we do. Sometimes these ways can be problematic and can result in personal difficulties. They can have a negative impact on our mental health, our relationships and on our ability and freedom to choose something different for ourselves. By sharing our story and experiences with a therapist who is empathically attuned and responding with unconditional positive regard and acceptance, we are encouraged to engage in a thorough examination of what might be causing us difficulty.
